obsolete: extract helpers from  _load()

In preparation for making the successors, precursors, and children
dictionaries lazily populated, break up _load() into one function for
adding markers to each dictionary.

The file/directory replacement can only be reproduced on
bzr >= 1.4. Merge it back in test-convert-bzr-directories once
this version becomes mainstream.
